Europeans have been settling in Brooklyn for almost 350 years. Why do they call it Brooklyn?

Brooklyn’s roots can be traced back to the seventeenth century, when it was formed as a Dutch settlement. Who thought the Dutch were the ones who gave rise to that well-known accent? What’s the deal with Brooklyn? The Dutch gave the town its name after the nearby city of Breukelen.
