Scott Occhiogrosso is a partner with Block O’Toole & Murphy and has handled several multi-million dollar construction accident and catastrophic injury cases. In April 2019, he won $110,174,972.38 for a severely injured cyclist against NYCTA (NYCTA). This may be New York’s largest non-medical malpractice verdict.

After law school, Mr. Occhiogrosso began his trial lawyer training in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office. He handled thousands of cases in Brooklyn’s grungy, enormous courtrooms. While honing his prosecutorial talents, he worked with future firm partners Stephen J. Murphy and S. Joseph Donahue. Mr. Occhiogrosso’s drive and ability got him promoted to the Brooklyn Gang Unit. Mr. Occhiogrosso prosecuted violent and gang-related defendants in the Gang Unit. He won drug, robbery, burglary, assault, attempted murder, and murder cases. Mr. Occhiogrosso earned a reputation as an ethical but fierce opponent at the District Attorney’s Office. His experiences strengthened his passion to help people as a lawyer. In 2005, he left the District Attorney’s Office to become a civil defense attorney for the Port Authority. Mr. Occhiogrosso defended hundreds of multimillion-dollar cases for police officers and Port Authority employees. While learning civil practice, he gained courtroom experience. In 2010, he left the Port Authority and joined a boutique plaintiff personal injury firm in New York City. In his brief but crucial time with that business, he won a $5.5 Million jury verdict in a Manhattan medical malpractice case against a seasoned opponent.

In 2013, Scott was honored by his colleagues as a New York Super Lawyer, meaning he is in the top 5% of plaintiff’s personal injury attorneys.

Mr. Occhiogrosso is bilingual. He teaches Spanish-speaking New York workers on safety and legal rights.
