The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is a private university that is widely regarded as the world’s first technological research university. It is located in the city of Troy, New York, and it also has campuses in Hartford, New York, and Groton, Connecticut.
In 1824, the institution was established by a former member of the New York State Senate named Stephen Van Rensselaer and an educator and geologist named Amos Eaton.
RPI has over 145 programs available at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. These programs are spread across the schools of Engineering, Science, Architecture, Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and the Lally School of Management. The academic calendar at RPI is based on the semester system.
Students have the option to pursue a degree that combines subjects such as Information Technology and Web Science.
