Orlando Ortiz | Gym Trainer

Hey! I’m Orlando Ortiz. As one of the newest members to the Bad Ass family, I’m here to challenge all of the Cadets to level up and “Handle Your Fitness”. My story is one of a boy born and raised in Brooklyn (a few years here and there in Puerto Rico) who found his passion for exercise and fitness through sports. As a result of that, I chose to make it a permanent part of my life by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in physical education and later earning my master’s degree in health education. I became a physical education teacher and, after 20 years, I can proudly say I’ve taught close to 5,000 students.

While I’ve been around the block a few times, I show no signs of fatigue. My passion for teaching remains as strong as ever! At the high school level, I’ve taught all types of fitness classes like indoor boot camp, calisthenics with tabata, outdoor walk-jog-run, weight training, etc. With friends and family, I’ve run plenty of outdoor boot camp style sessions over the years as well. As far as favorite types of workouts, all of them! My favorite exercise? Burpees… yes, Burpees! Once you train with me, you’ll learn to love them too… at the very least you’ll love when they’re over.

When I’m not teaching or exercising myself, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, riding bike (wait, that’s exercise), watching YouTube. I’ll leave you with a portion of my favorite quote. It comes from billionaire Charlie Munger (He loves burpees too… wink, wink) “Step by step you get ahead, but not necessarily in fast spurts. But you build discipline by preparing for fast spurts. Slug it out, one inch at a time, day by day. At the end of the day- if you live long enough- most people get what they deserve.”
