Jose Cordero | Gym Trainer

Jose Cordero’s parents reared him in Brooklyn. When he was 7, his apartment complex caught on fire. Firefighters rescued an elderly woman from her residence after climbing ladders. “This is who I’m going to be,” Cordero thought as these men descended.

At 15, Cordero began his martial arts profession. Grandmaster talent (Professor R. Sinclair). He saw Cordero’s shyness as a child. He learned to lead and break out of his shell. He discovered he loved teaching over time.

Cordero attended Fort Hamilton High School and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Over time, he had two goals. His first objective was to become a firefighter. Opening a martial arts school was his second objective. In 2007, Cordero became a NYC firefighter. He accomplished his dream.
Cordero’s 2010 knee injury necessitated extensive surgery. While in treatment, he watched “The Biggest Loser” and understood that many individuals need aid, encouragement, and motivation. That’s when his best friend Anthony Espo started free park training. They started with four. They had 120 free students each session after a few months of instruction. Three years later, “Bad Ass Academy” was blessed.

Cordero’s aspirations are coming true. He enjoys visiting schools to teach kids about fire safety. They are the future, and he believes his lectures may save them or a loved one. Every morning, he wants more. His next move? His next aims and challenges? He’s never satisfied.
