Alejandro G. Padilla

 

Garca Padilla started his work career as a clerk for the Appellate Circuit after graduation from colleges in Puerto Rico with a bachelor’s degree and a law degree. Aside from working as a legislative aide, he also led the Association of General Contractors, managed contract and real estate law, and lectured at the Interamerican University Law School.

Alejandro Garcia Padilla is a lawyer who has worked in the field since 1998 and who functioned as Governor of Puerto Rico from 2013 to 2017. The rights of employees and consumers have always been his emphasis throughout his time as both an attorney and a politician.

Political career and Distinguished performance:

  • In 2005, Garca Padilla was confirmed to represent the Department of Consumer Affairs in a political capacity for the first time.
  • During his tenure as Secretary, he advocated for the interests of average Puerto Ricans by doing things like ensuring that gas prices remained low while soaring crude oil costs threatened the Commonwealth’s economy.
  • Former governor Garca Padilla resigned in 2007 to compete for Puerto Rico’s senate, and he was ultimately elected in 2008. During his stint in the Senate, Garca Padilla served as the top Democrat on three different committees: government affairs, public safety, and the judiciary.
  • Having announced his candidacy for Puerto Rico governor in 2011, he was subsequently elected as head of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD).
  • To become Governor in 2012, Garca Padilla ran on the platform of advocating for Puerto Rico’s working class and fostering economic growth, both of which he ultimately achieved.
  • After serving for a time in public office, Garcia Padilla went back into private practice.
  • Garcia Padilla was named in 2018 to oversee the Puerto Rico branch of the Spanish legal firm Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo. Also, he was Of-Counsel with the global plaintiffs’ legal firm Sanders Phillips Grossman.
