Queens is a borough in the U.S. state of New York and a neighborhood of New York City. Queens is bordered on three sides by sea by the other boroughs of New York City: Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. It is the biggest borough in New York City and is located on Long Island. The western point of Long Island is surrounded by the borough of Brooklyn, and the eastern tip of Long Island is bordered by Nassau County.

Queens is New York state’s second-most populous county, behind Kings County (Brooklyn), and the second-most popular of the five New York City boroughs. Queens, after New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, would be the fourth most popular city in the US. Queens is New York City’s fourth-most highly populated borough. Its foreign-born population is 47%. Queens is the world’s most culturally and ethnically varied county.
History
Queens was incorporated into New York’s 12 boroughs in 1683. English Queen and Portuguese royal princess Catherine of Braganza called the town (1638–1705). Queens included Nassau County from 1683 to 1899. In 1898, Long Island City, Newtown, Flushing, Jamaica, and western Hempstead were consolidated into Queens. Queens communities except Hempstead.
Diversified economy
The economy in Queens is the most different of the five neighborhoods in New York City. The two terminals serving New York City—John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia—are located here. It is home to the U.S. Open tennis competition, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Citi Field, the New York Mets baseball stadium, Kaufman Astoria Studios, Silvercup Studios, and the Aqueduct Racetrack. Rapid gentrification is occurring in Flushing as a result of investment from Chinese multinational companies, while gentrification in Long Island City is occurring because of its closeness to Manhattan across the East River.
Ozone Park, Jackson Heights, Flushing, Astoria, and Long Island City are just some of the communities in western and central Queens that support higher apartment buildings. Meanwhile, neighborhoods in the borough’s eastern section are characterized by lower-rise housing.
Renowned for
JFK International and LaGuardia, two of the three main airports in the NYC region, are situated in Queens. Flushing Meadows Park, which hosts the US Open tennis competition and the New York Mets baseball team, as well as Kaufman Astoria Studios, Silvercup Studios, and Aqueduct Racetrack, are among the attractions.
